How can you create a happy marriage that lasts?

Are many couples that have been together for a long time dissatisfied with their marriage? This is the question that has being bugging me for a while. In my occupation as a Feng Shui consultant, many of my clients come to me with troubled relationships. I'm often asked by those I help what the secret of a good marriage is.

Asking around, I polled a few of my married friends and got their opinion on the matter. These couples, which are over 50 years old, were chosen because of their age and the fact that they have been married for a long time The answer they gave was a surprise to me Based on anecdotes they have from their own experiences and those from friends, they think that nine out of ten married couples are somehow unhappy in their marriage.

Granted that they do not live happily ever after, as in the fairy tales, this is still quite sad – if it is indeed true.

The question now to be asked is if there is a cure. Maybe there is.

In olden Chinese societies arranged marriages are commonplace. The birth details of the couple are examine to see if they are compatible, before they let them marry.

Does this always work? There are increased chances with it but it may not work every time. However through years of observation, they found out that if you combine it with some conditions, you can increase the chances of having a happy and lasting marriage.

While this insight is for all, it is most important for those with a background of failed marriages or relationships, to remember this.

Some of the applicable conditions are as follows.

In the old days, the husband must always be older than the wife. It has almost been a tradition. You should not be able to break it, because it cannot be broken. Yet the people of antiquity also observed that for people with failed marriages or relationships, going against the tradition - i.e. having an older wife – can strangely be the answer. To the ancient Chinese, the wife is considered older even if she is a day older than the husband. Although, for an improved outcome, a greater age difference is optimal.

The other option for a more successful relationship is for the husband to be much older than the wife. The ancient Chinese interpreted much older as at least 8 years of age difference. In practice, ten or fifteen years older is perfectly permitted or wanted.

It would also increase the chances if there is a big disparity in the social and economic standard between the husband and the wife. An example of this would be a couple where the husband is a degreed corporate executive, but the wife is a product of a less wealthy family, and has had little schooling herself. Might it be reversed? A husband being always a breadwinner in olden days it was not possible. However in current modern times, where a lot of women earn more than than their husbands, why not?

The earlier days the condition applies to woman's only If she cannot be a successful first wife, it does not mean that she cannot be successful being the second or third one. Being in the position of being the other person in a man's life, can bring you long term success I have no idea about being the alternate man, you know!

What happens in case nothing from the above works?

The final option is to have a spouse that is of a different race or from a different culture. As an example, two people raised in different parts of Asia. To give an example, if one was raised in China and the other was raised in America.

We have been the beneficiaries of our forefathers' wisdom. Give it a try, especially, if you have trouble maintaining a healthy relationship. You have absolutely nothing to lose!
