Will Work for Food

I am a writer with an English degree. I need a job in my field. I have applied to the job of my dreams at a local college, but so far, no word. I am willing to do freelance work, too, and I have looked everywhere. A windfall would be awesome, but I don't want a money hand-out. I live in an abusive marriage, and I need to get out. I want a good job that allows me to support myself and take care of my 3 children. Any help, prayers, or whatever would be greatly appreciated.
