A lot of predictions have been made about the world coming to an end in 2012. Different people have given different reasons for this to happen. Few believe that earth will undergo a drastic transformation whereas others say that humanity will experience a consciousness change. In fact, a date has even been predicted when all this will happen which is 21 December 2012.

But why only 2012, why not some other year? The reason behind this is that the Mayan Calendar ends abruptly on this day as per the Gregorian calendar. No one knows the reason behind the end of the calendar on 21 December 2012, but people have different theories about it. But the basic idea that the world will undergo a major transition is not a new idea. Even the Jewish mystics have predicted that the world would face a major change. However, according to them this change will not occur for another 231 years.

According to the prophecy of Kabbalists or Jewish mystics, the spiritual evolution of the world can be compared to the 7 days of a week. The 6000^th year has been compared to the sixth working day of cosmic week and has been said that that will be the year when the world will cross the threshold of Shabba HaGadol. At present, we are in the 5769^th year of Jewish calendar. As per the Kabbalists’ version, at about 12.30 pm on the afternoon of Friday, the Jews prepare for the Sabbath which begins on Friday evening at Sundown.

So what affect does all this have on our lives? It signifies that now is the time to start preparing for a transition that will occur some time in the future. Whenever this time will come, it will be experienced as the time of ‘Peace’ or ‘Heaven’ on Earth. The Kabbalists have specified that in order to prepare ourselves for this future event, we need to change our conscious to a selfless one and become the kind of people who work for the sake of others and receive everything for helping others.

The basic idea is to connect to God by behaving in a manner in which god would behave and appreciate. According to the Kabbalist perspective, the world was created by God to provide Divine gifts to us. So if we live for others, we will grow to be givers. This, in turn, will remove the barrier between us and God, between the receiver and Giver. After this barrier is removed, we get close and connected to God and this feeling gives us immense peace. God created us as recipient of goodness and undoubtedly we would still love to receive. But we should accept everything with the intention of sharing with others to giving to others.

It is true that one cannot change completely in a moment’s time. However, when each one of when will begin to change our conscious, it will have an affect on our environment as well as everything around us. If we get ready for 2012 from now onwards, it may happen that we create the change that has been predicted, rather than that change affecting our lives. Whichever way it may be, one thing is for sure that our lives would improve and the world would become a better place of live-in.

‘Nostradamus’ – a world renowned personality made a number of predictions for the future of the world during his lifetime, many of which actually came true. He made some predictions about the occurrence of World War III as well. Do we know all about it?

Born in France in the district of Saint Remy on 14^th of December 1503, Nostradamus was always a talented and studios child in school. He learnt various languages and subsequently became expert in Greek, Hebrew, and Latin among others. He was also a good physician as well as a Great Astrologer.

Ever since the time when he was a small child, he had steadfast faith in Jesus Christ and possessed an intuitive power within himself. He began giving out his prophecies at the age of 44 years. Many of his prophecies were related to different countries, particularly their politicians. A number of his predictions were related to important events which were to take place in the world as well as about wars. All his predictions were written in the form of 4 lines poem which were given the name ‘Century’ which were published in 9 volumes.

Nostradamus’ predictions covered a period of more than 1500 years following his death. In many of his predictions he has even mentioned the exact date and year in which the event would be taking place. Due to this, he has been fondly given the name ‘kind of prophets’. Few of his most significant predictions include the destruction due to atom bombs in Nagasaki and Hiroshima, England Internal War, French revolution, Fall of Napolean and Hitler, Kennedy brother’s murder, Mahatma Gandhi’s murder, Germany’s partition and reunion, Vietnam War and many more. He had also predicted that a large asteroid will crash in the ocean in this millennium leading to disastrous results.

About the World War III, he has said that the greatest destruction will occurs due to the actions of human beings. The war will mainly involve the use of chemical weapons and its consequent suffering will go on for almost 27 years. He has also predicted the total devastation of the city of New York. So along with his predictions, he also tells the people of the world to develop more mercy and tolerance towards each other in order to avoid these devastating events. In his view, people will understand that the causes of all suffering lie within their own lives; they will realize their faults and the world will get back its golden age once again.

Spontaneous human combustion is a case in which the human body burns without an external source of ignition. I found this to be quite an interesting case. There’s been quite a lot speculation, case studies, arguments and theories based on this. Investigators have provided as much as information as possible, but thorough investigation completely has been lacking in the years of investigation of this case. Most of the investigators have tried best to provide their physical evidence or photographic evidence.

I’ve studied and found that there have been many hypothesized causes. People believe that SHC has been caused the following three causes namely, super natural, natural and unobserved phenomena.

I’ve read and further found that, SHC can be caused by a large degree of heat produced in the body. The heat tends to hurt and damage the limbs and body parts surrounding the specific area.

A person who is a victim of SHC usually is an alcoholic, who has drunk large quantities of liquor before undergoing SHC. In many theories it has also been stated that mainly depressed or lonely people usually fall into a trance before they undergo SHC. Usually, these types of people can tend to pull off a chemical reaction in their body, which triggers the heat off a chain reaction that releases hydrogen and oxygen spontaneously, making the body react to it. It also works on the blood of the person, altering the gas levels and creating huge quantities of heat, leading to SHC.

Sometimes due to their constant drinking habits, the toxic levels rise in their body and can tend to trigger the chemical reaction. This can lead to ignition of the body or a body part and the limbs surrounding it. There have been nearly 300 cases of SHC.

Other studies, I have read, suggest that sometimes (very rare cases) even clothing is a cause for SHC. Through the flow of static electricity, SHC can be triggered. A person walking upon a carpet can tend to work up the static electricity in his body.

It is also noted that since every human body has an electrical field in his body, sometimes there can be an excess discharge of this field which can lead to an unexplained phenomena of SHC.

Other theories state that a cigarette could cause SHC. A victim could be holding the cigarette while undergoing a heart attack. During this, he may drop his cigarette which would land on a portion of the clothing and tear open the subcutaneous layer of fat in the body, leading to SHC.

I found some interesting and famous real life incidents. Amongst them, the most interesting case is that of 61 year old Jeannie Saffin. She had a mind of a 6 year old and like many small children, she was terribly frightened of flames, she would not even hold a box of matches. One day, while she was sitting along with her 82 year old father, she just burst into flames. Her father caught her and tried dousing out the flames and disfigured his own hands in the process. Later investigations state that he was smoking and an ember could have caught her clothing. But it was not explained as to why her face had burst into flames.

SHC is indeed a mystery to all scientists and investigators. No one has ever found a proper cause or cure for this case.

I first got to know about the Native Indian peace pipe from a Native American friend. I often noticed that he used the expression “Smoked the peace pipe” whenever he referred to patching up with someone after a fight. One day I got curious and asked him about it. He enlightened me on the ancient tradition of smoking a peace pipe by the native Indians. The peace pipe also known as medicine pipe or calemut is used by many Native American tribes as a symbol of peace and as an offering to Mother Earth for her bountiful gifts.

I had the fortune of trying out the ritual myself thanks to my friend. He had saved up the smoking pipe that his forefathers had used years ago. Along with the pipe came a pipe bowl which is usually made of red pipestone. The ceremony began with the pipe being loaded with tobacco, and then being pointed to all four directions – East, West, North and South with respect to Mother Earth (Gaia) and Father Sky. It finally ends with the final ceremonial offering to the Great Spirit. On one hand I held the pipe firmly by the bowl and pointed the stem of the pipe to the east. On the other hand I held a pinch of tobacco, which I sprinkled on the ground to the wise and prosperous Mother Earth and also in recognition of what I have taken from Her. After this I inserted the tobacco in the bowl of the pipe. The sprinkling, it seems, is also a message to the spirit world that a portion of the tobacco is for the powers from the East. The last step is the holding up of the pipe pointed straight upward, into the centre of the universe as Wakan Tanka is regarded to be above, said my friend, although Indians admit that God is everywhere. I had to chant ritual words which included praises and thanking each of the directions for the various gifts.

After chanting the ritual words I turned to the south and pointed the pipe stem facing the south. I held another pinch of tobacco slightly above eye level in the south direction. And I chanted the respective verses. Next I turned west and added another pinch of tobacco. The west is where, according to their tradition, we gain our spiritual wisdom from. Then I sprinkled the tobacco to the north and then inserted into the bowl. After all four directions were accredited I touched the pipe bowl to the ground. I sprinkled tobacco on Mother Earth and then pointed it at an angle into the sky. We performed the ceremony in day and hence I had pointed it to the sun. My friend told me that I should point to the moon if it was night. This was an acknowledgement to Father Sky. Then more tobacco is sprinkled on the ground and the pipe is again loaded and held almost straight up to end the ritual.

My friend said he still believes that the ritual of the peace pipe gives him peace of mind. I borrowed it from him for a week and realised it was true. Many of these customs and traditions though different in many ways are aimed at making a better world. I was glad I was open to such cultures and having learnt more about the Native Americans.

I had some of the most wonderful experiences while researching the field of spirituality. Spirituality is not born out of any religion. It does not have any parent, or origin. It teaches the morality and spectrums of life. In other words, I have found out that Spirituality is nothing but absolute science. It goes straight into the matter, without any levels of research or links. While many religions preach about their Creator and their scriptures, Spirituality deals with logic of life.

One of the most essential and basic principles of Spirituality is that there are infinite paths that lead to God. We can worship and reach out to God through any form, such as music, art, dance, sculpture etc. One of the moral values of Spirituality is to reach out to God, without hurting or provoking violence and cruelty amongst fellow men. In my research I have discovered that Spirituality seeks insight and provides us with various options in the style of our prayer, guiding us rightly and strengthening our faith.

In addition to the above mentioned, I have also discovered that an average human is surrounded by 75% unhappiness. The science of Spirituality fights to discard this make way for bliss and supreme happiness. Spirituality is indeed above all sciences in this world. When the door closes at the intellectual level, it opens to a wider perspective, the spiritual level.

Native Indians have a longstanding tradition of spirituality mixed with their customs and religion. The fusion of spirituality in daily practice is often quoted by various spiritual gurus to make life extremely contented and happy. So I ventured to find out more about Native Indian Spirituality and came to know that they believe that earth is a living super organism. Mother Earth or Gaia has given birth to all that is present in the world.  We, humans are also Gaia’s children varying only in ancestry. Thus all their spiritual endeavours are intended to strengthen our self, our families and friends, our relationships with each other and finally Mother Earth Herself. They speak of secularism in respecting each other and pray for the common good of all. They envision peace and hope in the world. They do not claim to convert you, just to ensure that you become a better person than what you already are. They perform various ceremonies to please the various sacred presences for prosperous living. The ceremonies themselves differ according to the various tribes. Each tribe has a different method that is limited by the resources available and modified to suit needs.  Christianity has yet again tried to suppress the native Indian traditions by many wars and years of oppression. But even today, Native Indian spirituality exists and is being slowly recognised for its ways and means of peaceful living. No one is yet to be an expert in this field of rich tradition. I would say that I’m still learning about their beautiful spiritual undertaking to make this world a better place to live in for future generations to come.

Can anyone believe that the 9/11 attacks on the world trade centre were actually predicted by a man more than four hundred years ago? Who else could it be but Michael de Nostredame – more commonly called Nostradamus. It is believed that this ‘seer’ predicted the attack on the twin towers in the seventeenth century.

Phony? Or real? Yet, even in the computer age, a part of the population has been stunned by the predictions made by this philosopher in 1654. There are many versions of this rumor and none of them have yet been proved authentic.

Not only are the versions unbelievable. They are also, in some cases, very dramatic and obviously woven.

Not withstanding the fact that the philosopher himself died in 1566, it has become evident that certain highly bored individuals with a lot of time on their hands are trying to incite some excitement into people’s lives through these false alarms.

It is said that some of these words are made up by these pranksters in nostradamus style writing.

The 1654 hoax prediction was actually an essay written by a student from Brock University in Canada who made up the entire quatrain to show how one can easily forge and mangle a nostradamus prediction to sound mischievous.

It is said that Nostradamus composed around 942 quatrains in his lifetime and published it in a book called ‘Centuries’. It means hundreds of anything. But it was mistaken to mean hundreds of years. This is where all the confusion began.

Nostradamus’ quatrains were quaint and mystical and supposedly went on to predict a thousand years in French history. The only ever exact date that he mentioned was July 1999, when he believed the world would end.

And in almost 30 of these mystical parables, Nostradamus talks about three “anti-christ”s who will take over the world. Will Mc Whorter, an interpreter identifies two of the three. One was Napoleon and the second, who tyrannized the world during World War II was Hitler. Aficionados of Nostradamus are resting their case on the third, who allegedly takes over after World War III. The bets are still high on who that could be.

Telepathy is a form of mind to mind communication often practiced by psychics. Some are said to be born with telepathic powers and can hence ‘pick up’ signals from those ‘transmitting’ them. The mental communication can involve transmitting of images, sounds, symbols, shapes, colours, thoughts feelings etc.

Telepathy like all psychic powers has been practiced from immemorial and by different cultures. There are various instances of telepathic communication in folklore and ancient writings. Certain tribes consider telepathy an inherent universal human quality while others consider that they are powers of a select few.  Ancient Egyptians believed in telepathy and often tried to communicate by the same while Greek philosophers like Democritus and Aristotle started putting forward theories to explain the phenomenon. As times developed, science questioned the existence of telepathy. Societies dedicated to psychic research were founded that conducted experiments to understand these least studied areas. Telepathy was the first of the psychic powers to be studied by scientific means. From then telepathy has been one of the well studies psychic powers of all times with its research continuing till today.

Telepathy has been well reported by many research groups. Certain magicians like Rowland I and D. Brown have also exhibited their telepathic powers. Telepathy is done with two persons – the sender and receiver. The sender transmits and receiver receives. There is no verbal communication or gesturing. Like all psychic powers, humans have long forgotten their telepathic abilities. Now this lost technique can be learnt back again if you have a open and eager mind. Unlike other psychic powers, telepathy has to be practiced in pairs. Both in the pair should believe in the possibility of telepathy and should also have an open eager mind to learn it. It is advisable to decide who will be the sender and who, the receiver. Telepathy is no exception when it comes to mediation. Both the sender and receiver should be completely relaxed physically and mentally. Deep breaths synchronizing with each other also bring the pair together in tune for telepathy. The sender should imagine the receiver well with facial features and concentrate on the image. He should imagine that the receiver is close by and willing to accept his transmissions. The receiver on the other hand should be comfortable in his space and not allow stray thoughts. He should not consciously struggle to grasp the sender’s thoughts which will again be unsuccessful. The sender and receiver can then discuss about what was transmitted and later even exchange roles to see which is more suitable for each.
